A field day on Tomato (ArkaSamrat) and Frenchbean (ArkaSuvidha) was organised by ICAR-KVK, Hirehalli, Tumakuru at Durgadahalli and Sethupalaya villages of Tumakuru District on 12th Dec 2017. Dr.T Sadashiva, Head, Division of Vegetable crops, ICAR-IIHR, Dr T S Aghora, Principal Scientist and Dr T H Singh, Principal Scientist, Division of Vegetable crops took part in the event as experts. The Tomato – ArkaSamrat variety was grown by the farmer Shri.ChikkaNagayya in one acre plot. He adopted poly mulching technologies and followed all the recommended practices advocated by KVK staff. The growth of the crop and bearing of fruits were superior to the condition of other private varieties grown by nearby farmers. Dr Sadashiva advised the farmers to take up seed production activities in support with ICAR-IIHR and ICAR-KVK. Later in the day, another successful front line demonstration of Frenchbean (ArkaSuvidha) using Bio-rationals like Jeevamrutha was visited by the participants. Dr T S Aghora, who examined the crops, appreciated the lush green colour and the taste of the vegetables, owing to the organic methodologies practised by the farmer Sri Krishnojirao, taking support from KVK staff. Dr N Loganandhan, Head, KVK, urged the need for using organic manure and bio-fertilizer by farmers in developing the fertility of soil, which in turn would take care of any crops. There was much of interaction between farmers and scientists, discussing various crop cultivation measures and other technologies of ICAR-IIHR. Later in the event, a field visit to Brinjal cultivation using ArkaActino plus was also arranged, in which Dr T H Singh examined the field and shared his advice. The programme ended with Vote of Thanks by Sri Ramesh and Sri Prashanth, SMSs and the organisers of the Field Day, followed by lunch.
